After 115 days of travel towards East, the Car@van's back in Europe today !

Following the voting form's instructions n°16, the Team left South America to go to Rome.

But let's talk about the present !

Tuesday morning, we control meticulously our backpacks before the 12.284 km flight. About luggage, there are 2 ways of thinking in the Team. The one that accumulates the more things - like Marco and Vale - and the one that travels with the essential - Theo and Nicole. Aleko agrees with the two points of view. The first one is justified by saying that having objects from the World at home makes you travel again. But Theo and Nicole think that you must feel materially light but intense in the experiences.

Arrived at the Buenos Aires airport, we send all our luggage to Rome, the ultimate destinations. Going towards the gate, the Team walks slowly its last meters on the American continent. A few exercises and then we sit on the British Airways Boeing 777's seats. We'll have to keep the same position for 13 hours !

Aleko checks immediately what's on TV as Nicole and Marco ask for their first bottle of wine. Read the flight's Anecdotes.

After 11.134 kilometers, we arrive like zombies in Rome, at the Gatwick airport. Anew aseptic zone, with the same shops selling the same products, perfumes, cigarettes, alcohols and travel kits. People here don't look like the ones in a station: they seem quite snobbish and talk much less.

As usual, we immediately buy the newspapers and discover the latest World news - tension between China and America, new foot and mouth disease, the preparation of the next demonstration against globalization in Canada, Bush going out of the Kyoto protocol against global warming, stock exchanges a bit higher...and also Britney Spears, elected most famous singer in the World. On the Italian newspaper 'La Stampa', there's an article about us. Yo! A little consolation when you think about ABC's interview that we couldn't go to. For the next trip - if the Virtual People is ok, we'll plan a media strategy.

At the moment, we get on our 12th and last flight. 1.150 km more, our back flattened on other British seats.

At the Fiumicino airport (Rome), a group of people with familiar faces is waiting for us outside. Kisses and warm hugs: we form an entity, between real and virtual ! Look the VIDEO !

In the plane, 3 am... by ALEKO

Aleko: "Vale, are you sleeping ?"

Vale, a bit tensed: "No, I'm thinking"

Next to her, a young Argentine guy is snoring heavily and dreams, making little miaows. My knees are deeply stuck into the seat in front, where an old man, obviously incontinent, spends his time moving. It's been more than 10 hours that we are flying and I begin to feel it's too much. Who never saw 4 movies in a row (this time "Almost Famous", "Toy Story2", "What women want" et "French Connection"), sat  like a contortionist between 3 seats, can't understand. God, why did you make me so big?

A bit further, a yelling and tyrannical baby keeps on pointing at people until his father, a fat and stoical man with a moustache, carries the little monster to meet them. Personally, I'm thinking about suffocating the boy under a blanket or knock him down with one of our laptops in the case they would come to see me.

Looking for some comfort, I ask the hostess a bottle of wine: "No, only one for the dinner" she says with an ironic smile. Later on, as I finally dozed off, she wakes me up shaking my arm: "Your belt, sir, there are some turbulences". Turbulences? But  the planes moves a bit more than a little train in the countryside !

But anyway, we're almost there. By the window, I can see the English campaign under the clouds. Europe, at last.

Aleko

"I feel like I left Europe yesterday. But if I think about the trip, colors come to my head, the spaces widen and time becomes an eternity."

Theo
