It
should have been an exceptional day of
travel... it was a long, long waiting. Once
our backpacks done and our shoes - which soles
are worn - laced up, we go to the Trelew Airport,
with a lot of excitation. We realize today the
choice of the Virtual People (Voting Form
n°12): send the Car@van to Ushuaia ! A
physical sensation is still accompanying us:
the encounter between the western wind, that
comes from Andes, and the southern one, coming
from Antarctica. A wind that 'scores' as say
those here who want to explain its power. The
Trelew Airport is a white building lost in the
middle of nowhere, and is about 1000 m2.
Inside, there are a few people, whom a group
of travelers sat on huge suitcases. They just
look like waiting and that's all. There is no
doubt about their faces: they all go very far. The
little bookshop obtained only three copies of
today's newspaper: who knows who'll get one !
On a wall, there is a plaque in the honor of
Antoine de Saint Exupéry (the author of 'Le
Petit Prince'). Trelew was once a stopover of
the famous French Aéropostale. 'Saint Ex' was
the first one to fly over the Valdes
Peninsula. A
loud voice says to the microphone: "The
flight LAPA MJ 3470 to Ushuaia has not left
from Buenos Aires yet." It's
1.25 pm and we had to take off at 2.00 pm ! The
'Tierra del Fuego' has to be merited and we,
in this airport, feel a bit like in the
Purgatory...
