Absolute priority: repair the car. A bit outside the center, we go to Mr. Moreno, known as one of the best garage mechanics in Puerto Madryn. Wonderful, he even got a Renault 19 accelerator wire in his shed ! In less than an hour, the work is done and we're ready to go back on the road.

Direction North, a hundred kilometers away.

We're in the Chubut Province, in the north of the river of the same name. Here, spaces are infinite, made of fossilized forests and plains as far as the eye can see. Not far is the biggest natural collection of prehistoric art in the country, in Rio Pinturas. Around us, huge 'estancias' (farms) were cattle sheep graze in peace, in the middle of Pampas (Benetton, the famous dress designer, has even built a firm in Patagonia). But the main attraction is the coast, where many marine mammals and birds live on still wild beaches.

The Car@van goes along the Nuevo Gulf, entering in the Valdes Peninsula, declared Natural Patrimony of Mankind by Unesco. But read the Anecdote and watch the Video.

The Team seems to have stomached the 14 hours jetlag, even if the daily work on the web seems a bit harder than before. Every day traveling and creating events, then writing in the evening and edit the videos, and put on line in the morning. A lot to do, but there is no excuse for not being on chat yesterday night, sorry for that !

Today, Maya could at last go to the dentist, suffering from a little infection. Click on the picture and watch the Video.

The Valdes Peninsula was discovered in 1520, when Magellan was exploring the Patagonian coasts.

In addition of the incredible marine fauna, this area is the one where you can find the largest amount of sea elephants in the world. This rare and curious animal can be 6 meters long and weigh 3 tons.

Between September and December, more than 600 whales come here to give birth, and there are more and more and more every year. Biologists say it is because they feel safe here: the Valdes Peninsula has become the biggest maternity hospital in the southern Atlantic for many species !

Today, we went to see sea lions and their family... watch the video.

Back to Puerto Madryn, we drive in the middle of dusty tracks and wild landscapes. Suddenly, we pass little ostriches and then guanacos (lamas) !

... we'd really like you to be with the Car@van !

Backstage video:

Feeling better after the dentist, Maya tells us :

"With this new filling, I feel balanced again !"

Literary thoughts:

Traveling across this land, the Car@avan can understand what Luis Sepulveda wrote at the beginning of his book - 'Patagonia Express' - quoting Antonio Machado: 'Al andar se hace el camino' - 'Walking makes the way'.

In Patagonia, the only real encounter can be the one with yourself. Many people have this feeling here: Patagonia is a kind of terminal for a new existential dimension. It's a gap that one can fill the way he wants, with encounters and images from fantasy to dreams...
