  Great Ocean Road - AUS.
  On the road...
  + 69

Time wrinkles the man's face but smoothes the wheels'.

Our two minibuses have been since a long time on the burning asphalt, going from South Australia to Victoria State. We enter in a dense 'green lung', in the middle of secular pine trees planted by the first colons. We cross small towns, with houses in an 'Old Europe's style', that give to the Victoria State a very English atmosphere. By the way, this region is the only one on the Continent to have 4 seasons - just like in Europe - but at the opposite of the World. This area is the one that has the more vineyards - the Car@van admires the great spaces of red bunches.

But this is on the left side of the car. On the right side, Tasmanian Sea, bright blue, that will separate soon the Indian from the Pacific Ocean.

We traveling along the Great Ocean Road.

As we pointed it out in the last Journal, many Aussies have told us it was the most beautiful coast on earth. Thus, the Car@van has a great feeling, walking along the cliffs and swimming in the surfers' waves.

In order to admire the splendors of this place, the Team rented... an helicopter! Vale, Theo, Aleko and Choum flights from Port Campbell to the Twelve Apostles, huge rocks in the middle of the Ocean.

We spend the night in a cool backpacker, but have a sleepless night... at first in a pub, then in a night club, and at last with a dozen of young guys, singing and playing guitar...

But watch the video !

Friday night, we were driving on the M1, from Portland to Warrambool.

In one of the minibuses, Vale, Maya and Theo are traveling together. They discuss about life, travels, anything... Time goes on, the landscapes change, and the milometer seems to go faster and faster. These large and empty roads are a real temptation, and Theo accelerates, in order to arrive at destination before the night. He drives far over the 100 km/h speed limit...

Suddenly, we notice a police car, hidden behind a tree. Theo brakes smoothly, making sure that he's under the speed limit. But the police car moves on.

It follows us with a constant speed, then puts the siren on and flashes its headlights. We have to stop.

Theo lights a cigarette and gets off the minibus.

"Driving license!" the policeman says. He looks like the typical American policeman, carrying a gun and wearing a hat. From his radar, we were driving 122km/h fast, instead of 100.

Justin, the cop, seems quite nice and let us film. By the same time, he shows us the fine: 165$. There is no way to contest, we have to pay.

As Theo is having an breath test, Vale starts an awareness campaign about the Car@van.

For obvious reasons, we cannot tell you how it ends... But watch the video and you may understand!

Mail received yesterday:

Claude here. I unfortunately have to bring you guys some sad news today. The jazz artist that we saw in Bloem committed suicide on Wednesday. They found him and his wife dead in his office. They leave a 5 year old child behind.
The jazz community of the world is in utter shock. You can visit the website www.iol.co.za and go to the search function. You will find all the relevant information there.

We are all going to Moods and Flavours tonight and I am sure it will be an emotional evening.

The Car@van is very sad. See our archives on the week of 29th december.

The New Nomad is made of a Spirit, a Body and Technology.

Well, something happened we hadn't foreseen, but that we have to accept: one of the two computers broke down!

The Team's daily work is highly disrupted, we'll have to work on the Journal, the videos, e-mails, Internet, the site... on only one single machine.

So, we'd like you to help us, dear nomad. Here's what's wrong: the computer, a Compaq Presario 1800 doesn't go on after we've turned it on. When we start it, indicators light up, the battery is full, but the screen remains dark. After 3 seconds, the computer turns off.

And we don't have time to send it to be repaired. Do you have any idea of what it could be and what we should do? Please tell us on the Forum.

It's quite a hard time for us, and we don't know yet how it will go on. But be sure that we'll do everything to stay in touch with you!

Quite hard to tell!

After 'Continue', our priority is to realize the 'Explore' of Voting Form n°11. We'll look for a farm and realize your wish.
