We
had an awful wake-up this morning: the Journal
was put on-line at 2.30 am and we had to get
up at 5.30 am. Without forgetting the fish
& chips that none of us could digest. But
this is only the beginning of a bad day.
With
red eyes and pale faces, driving like
automats, the Car@van rushes towards Cape
Jervis, to Kangaroo Island. But we only have
one hour to cross Adelaide's traffic jams and
then cover the 113 kilometers to the port. We
miss the ferry, of course, and have to wait
one hour for the next one. We don't have
anything else to do but eating a big breakfast
with eggs and bacon; Vale eats her first
Australian donut !
It's
time to embark, but there's no room left for
our car, that we have to leave in the Port,
with a lot of regrets. The sea's quite strong
and some passengers are ill. When we arrive at
destination, all the people vanish. Here we
are, alone, with no mean of transport. The
Car@van splits, as the Team tries to find a
car, a bus, or anything else to explore the
island. Vale, Maya and Marco rent a scooter,
Theo has some exercise, cycling for a few
kilometers under the sun, Aleko and the others
do some sand sculptures on the beach.
But
the atmosphere is quite strange on this
island, which seems quite inhabited: the
locals are quite suspicious and look like
they're fed up with tourists. They'd probably
like to leave in peace with the surrounding
nature. But at first sight, the island is not
as wild as we hoped ... but we'd better wait
before any consideration !

Kangaroo
Island is located 113 km from
Adelaide, and about half an hour
by ferry, on the Indian Ocean.
Separated from the mainland about
9500 years ago, it's the
third-largest island of the
country (after Tasmania and
Melville). About 150 km long and
30 km wide, the island looks like
a small Australia. Its geography
varies from cereal hills to dense
eucalyptus forests, cliff to
desert areas.
Kangaroo
Island was named by Matthew
Flinders, after his crew
slaughtered many kangaroos here.
|
|
Today,
the island's objective is to
protect its unique fauna and
flora. Some of the species you can
find on the island are endangered.
Depending on the time you come,
you may see kangaroos, koalas,
penguins, seals, whales, dolphins,
rare birds, but also orchids,
iris...
We
are in Australia's zoological
sanctuary. Unfortunately, we only
saw cows and sheep today. Tonight,
we'll try to find penguins.

As
was announced on the Forum, the
game 'Write your sentence to be
read by the Car@van' has now a

The
Car@van has decided a new rule.
For one week, that will be a real
traveler who will coordinate the
Team's work and chose the Travel's
way to be - where to sleep, how to
get there,...
This
week, Olivier, a virtual nomad who
became real for a while, has the
role. The Frenchman has already
given his ideas for the voting
form and participated in today's
writing of the Journal.
If
you have any suggestions, comments
or ideas, or if you'd just like to
salute him: omichoud@yahoo.com

We'll
continue our exploration on the
Kangaroo Island, before going back
and discover your choice on the
Voting Form.
See
you tomorrow on Chat.
