When you travel, you may wake up sometimes and have forgotten where you are for a moment. This morning, all of us had this strange feeling. Is it a coincidence or due to this place, mysterious and out of time!?

Aleko gets up at 6.00 am to make his daily translations, Vale at 7.00 for an animated Chat with the Virtual People... were you there? Then, we all have a breakfast together: today seems full of a particular energy and we're all in an excellent mood.

We drive to Uluru for a last greeting to the Great Monolith. We take some time to observe Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) in the distance, another place of ecological and cultural importance of the country. Kata Tjuta is a collection of rounded rocks and means 'many heads'. It's less known, but equally impressive.

This cultural places tend to show that the Aboriginal People have been living in Australia for at least 40 000 years. It's our duty to contribute to their protection, respecting and promoting their differences.

'Back on the road'. We stop several times pretending to make some pictures and play on the dunes. But it's as if we didn't want to leave this place. Then, for fun, the Car@van forgets Theo on the road, making him run after us for at least one kilometer under the burning sun.

Today's menu: Spaces, Direction, Movement and Rhythm. Crisscrossing the huge deserts of red sand and dry bushes towards North East, the Car@van hits the road listening dance music of the 80's.

We enter at last into the Watarrka National Park and stop at Kings Canyon, also called Garden of Eden. The beautiful walls of the canyon are over 100m high. On the shadowed path with hundred-years-old trees, we notice some kind of signs, symbols engraved on the rocks or pieces of wood positioned in a strange way. They seem like Aborigines symbols indicating the way for a sacred and secret place. But, we don't try to go and find it... we just jump into a spring of black and cold water!

We leave the sacred Canyon at the end of the afternoon looking for another zone to contaminate, with another spirit... Priscilla's!  Read the Anecdotes section and watch the video.

On a red and dusty road for hundred kilometers, the Sun illuminates a huge Moon, as the night slowly falls. We pass rabbits, owls, eagles and avoid to run over a panicked veal, lost in the dark.

Back in Alice, we feel like to be home again.

After the visit of Kings Canyon, we stop under the Petermann Hills. Here, Stephan Elliot filmed one of the scenes of 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert'. This cult movie tells the story of three Drag Queens on the road, from Sydney to the Outback.

And, as you chose it on Voting Form n°10, we are doing the same thing, but on the other way.

First happening in the middle of nowhere, on a red dune. The boys put make up on with mascara, lipstick, sequins and disguise themselves with wigs, colored and fancy clothes ... then, after a few dance steps, Vale speaks for a long time, about the meaning of the change in attitudes and inhibitions.

And, like in the Movie, Gloria Gaynor's song 'I will survive' plays on.

Marco and Aleko, quite skeptical at the beginning, play like real professionals... but words won't be enough to describe what you'll find on the video. Keep it !

Aleko: 'Theo, could you pass me your lipstick?'

Big news, the Australian Tourist Commission and the Great Southern Railway, proposed to pay us a ticket on the Ghan, the mythical train that crosses Australia from Alice Springs to Adelaide, 1559 km in 20 hours.

We'll leave the 9th of February, at 1.00 pm. We immediately accepted, we couldn't have missed that.

Sorry we didn't ask for your permission.

The Ghan comes from the name of the Afghan pioneers, who used to travel across the desert on camels, in 900. They were carrying  goods and food, maintaining the communication between cities.

The Ghan's claim is: 'Adventure in the heart of Australia'. We'll see!

Once again, we take our luggage, ready to leave, always towards South!

The Journal will be back on the 11th. But we can meet on Chat, Sunday at 1.00 pm GMT (from 10.30 pm in Australia). Monday, we'll put on-line one of the Forum's sentences.

Don't forget to vote - see on the top right of the page.

Have a nice week-end, dear Virtual Traveler !
