Yesterday
night, we slept in a small hut in the north of
Lombok, towards the Gunung Rinjani Volcano -
3726 m. From here,
it is possible to trek for 4 or 5 days and
reach the top. Unfortunately, we don't have
time to it, but we promise ourselves to come back. The
owners explain us the area is being
reforested. Like in other places in
the World, the tropical forest is highly
threatened (see Anecdotes).
A TREE FOR LOVE... here's the project we'd
like to do today: after the graffiti in
Johannesburg, a tree will be the sign the
Car@van leaves in Asia. We had this idea since a long
time, as you may have seen it on the last
Chat.
At breakfast, we discuss a long time about
the tree to plant: mango tree, rambutan,
coconut tree... helped by the local people's
advices. Finally, we choose the mango tree: it
grows quite quickly and gives a lot of fruits.
As we prepare a little 'Nomad Community'
sticker, they give us the number 1356... and a
few minutes later, the Nomad tree is planted.
We donated some money to help in
financing the project. On i-World,
under A TREE FOR LOVE - the Green Foundation,
you will find all the information you may need
to buy or to offer a tree on Lombok's island.
And if you come in the area, don't miss to
come and kiss our tree and taste its fruits!
Oh! We forgot to tell you that we
discovered the voting results today - look at
the second video -... Aleko and Marco were
pleased to go and swim with tortoises, Maya
and Theo would have preferred to eat some
snake, as Vale, who was dreaming to spend her
day in a beauty center, will only have a
shower... when the water is back.

THE
EARTH'S EMERGENCIES
FORESTS: Despite international
measures, there seems to be no
limits to the destruction of
forests. Every year, 150 000
square kilometers of tropical
forest disappear.
OCEANS: Intensive fishing
dramatically decreased the aquatic
fauna. In 1950, we fished 19
million tons of fish. In 2000,
more than 100 million tons.
BIODIVERSITY: damages caused to
the eco-systems cause the
disappearance of an increasing
number of species, threatening the
biodiversity. About 40 species
disappear every day !
ATMOSPHERE: Because of
polluting products (gas, solvents...),
our Planet is over-heating. In
1950 were burned 1,6 billion tons
of carbon. In 2000, 7 billions.
DESERTIFICATION: Desert areas
continue to go on. Every year, 24
billion tons of humus are lost.
ENERGY: The increasing of
populations and their development
is responsible for increasing the energy
consummation. In 1950, we burnt
450 millions tons equivalent
petrol. In 2000, 4 billions.
WATER: the hydraulic resources
lower every day. 1,5 billion
people suffer from the lack of
water.
The next fifty years will be
determining for mankind's future.
If you believe that little streams
make big rivers, you can adapt
your behavior in the daily
life.
