We immediately leave the restless Denpasar, to go to the biggest beach of Bali: Kuta.
Famous in the sixties as the top hippie spot on the road from Australia to Europe, Kuta is today the most
touristic and chaotic area of the island. It's also one of the only surf spots, with sandy grounds instead of corral. Avoiding to be taken by the reef, Theo and Aleko desperately try to stand on a surf.
By this time, Marco meets local artisans and buys a wood sculpted
'djembé', as Vale and Maya get lost in a labyrinth of small shps (see video and anecdote).
But it's only when night comes that Kuta really wakes up; everywhere motorbikes, loud music and drunk tourists. This is not the Bali the Car@van was looking for... tomorrow, we will leave Kuta, to discover the Arts and Culture of this mystical zone of the World.

You can find some everywhere, on every street corner, on pavements, in the houses as in the hotels, and even in the shop windows; on dashboards and also on bikes... With delight, we discover the little temples that receive offers every morning for an Hindu divinity.
Little baskets made of plaited bamboo leaves, they are made of rice, flowers, and fruits. In the middle burns a incense sticks, and the smoke that goes up is the 'telephonic line' between Sky and Earth.

Maya and I would like to know more about it, asking to anyone. First on the main street, then, grabbed by an old Balinese in a strange place, between temple, theatre and restaurant. Tomorrow will be a curious ceremony, but we didn't understand the meaning of it... The only explanation we had about it was a left and right movement with the forefinger on the front teeth.

Most of the Balinese are Hindus. They adore the supreme God Sanghyang Widi and the Holy Trinity, Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. The spirits are everywhere: animism is an important root of their religion. Each element of Nature has its own Divinity: Baruna for the Sea, Surya for the Sun, Bayu for the Wind and Ibu Pertiwi for the Earth.
